Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 1, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how ShareHTML (“ShareHTML,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our website and services at sharehtml.com and sharehtml.web.app (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Who we are

ShareHTML is a web application for uploading, sharing, reviewing, and commenting on HTML and Markdown documents. You can share documents through links with granular permission controls and collect inline feedback from viewers.

2. Information we collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information from your Google account: your name, email address, profile photo, and a unique account identifier. We use this to create and secure your account and to identify you to people you collaborate with.

GitHub connection (optional)

If you choose to connect a GitHub account to import HTML files, we use GitHub’s authorization flow and receive an access token along with your GitHub profile information. We use this access to let you browse and import files you select from your repositories. We only read the content you choose to import and do not modify your repositories. You can revoke this access at any time from your GitHub account settings.

Content you create

We store the content you upload or create, including your HTML/Markdown documents, document titles, and comments (comment text, your name and photo as displayed to others, and the element a comment is attached to). Large documents are stored in cloud file storage; other content is stored in our database. We also store your sharing settings (visibility mode and any domains or email addresses you authorize).

Technical and usage information

Like most web services, our hosting and infrastructure providers automatically log standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, device information, and access timestamps for security, reliability, and abuse prevention. We use cookies and similar browser storage strictly to keep you signed in and to operate the Service — we do not use them for advertising.

3. How we use information

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the Service;
  • To authenticate you and secure your account;
  • To enable sharing and enforce the permissions you configure;
  • To send notification emails to a document owner when someone comments on their document;
  • To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents, and technical issues;
  • To improve and develop the Service; and
  • To comply with legal obligations.

4. How information is shared

With people you share with

The Service exists to let you share. Documents and their comments are visible to others according to the sharing settings you choose— for example, anyone with the link (public), people in a specific email domain, or specific invited people. If you make a document public, anyone who has the link can view it without signing in. You are responsible for what you share and with whom.

Comment notifications

When someone comments on a document, we send an email to the document owner containing the commenter’s name, the document title, and a short excerpt of the comment. These emails are delivered through our transactional email provider.

Service providers

We rely on a small set of infrastructure providers who process data on our behalf:

  • Google Firebase & Google Cloud Platform— hosting, authentication, database, file storage, and serverless functions;
  • Resend — sending transactional (comment notification) emails;
  • GitHub — only if you choose to connect it for importing files.

These providers are authorized to use your information only to provide their services to us.

Legal and safety

We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of ShareHTML, our users, or the public.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising or marketing.

5. Data retention

We keep your content and account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You can delete individual documents at any time, which removes their stored content and comments. To delete your account and associated data, contact us at the address below. Residual copies may persist in routine backups or logs for a limited period before being overwritten.

6. Security

We protect data in transit with encryption (HTTPS), enforce database access rules, and render uploaded HTML inside a sandboxed frame to limit what embedded scripts can do. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Remember that documents you share publicly are accessible to anyone who has the link.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing (for example, under the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation). You can access and delete most of your content directly in the app. To exercise any other right, email us at privacy@sharehtml.com and we will respond as required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

8. International data transfers

Our infrastructure is operated in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.

9. Children’s privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Third-party content

Documents uploaded by users may contain third-party scripts, images, or links. That content is controlled by the people who create the documents, not by us, and this Policy does not cover the privacy practices of third parties. We render document content in a sandboxed frame, but you should be cautious when viewing documents from sources you do not trust.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.

12. Contact us

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or our data practices, contact us at privacy@sharehtml.com.
